Best RC Planes for Beginners

When beginning anything there are usually one main factor – is it expensive. Nobody wants to risk a fortune on something that its out just isn’t interesting to them in the long run. This is also the case with radio controlled vehicles which is why I often recommend cheaper more affordable models when starting out. You wanna make sure you like the hobby before you invest a lot more money on the really top models.

In the case of radio controlled planes there is another factor that comes to mind – how well known is the plane. While the look and performance is important with radio controlled cars the look is even more important with planes. You don’t just want some naff looking plane. You want something you know. In this post I have recommended four of the best planes based on their price and how well known they are. If these don’t get you interested in flying radio controlled planes nothing will. Let us begin.

Best RC Planes for Beginners

Each of these planes has been recommended based on their price and ease to use. Sure there are more high spec out there but no beginner is going to spend crazy money until they know for sure the enjoy flying the planes. For that reason and the fact these all look amazing I am recommending these planes as the best RC planes for beginners.

  • Spitfire V2 4CH Radio Controlled Plane RTF 2.4G
  • Hawker Hurricane 5CN RTF RC Plane
  • Mini P-51D Mustang RC Plane RTF 2.4Ghz
  • Predator MQ-9 3CH 2.4GHz High Speed RTF RC Plane (Drone)

Spitfire V2 4CH Radio Controlled Plane RTF 2.4G

SPITFIRE V2 4CH RADIO CONTROLLED PLANES RTFOne of the most recognisable planes in history is the Spitfire. Used by the British to defend themselves against Nazi German this plane didn’t just perform well in the skies it also looks amazing. There is something about the shape and design that makes it legendary and it is for that reason it is number 1 on my list.

The Spitfire V2 radio controlled plane looks every bit as stunning as the real thing. It is a stable and capable design (Of course it is it helped win a war) able to fly at low levels. It is ready to fly (RTF) making it ideal for beginners and features a great paint job, pre-installed servos and a nice powerful motor.

What fan of planes wouldn’t want the Spitfire in their collection? It is perfect for beginners and collectors a like offering the looks and performance that helped it win the war (OK, I may be getting a little carried away) but just look at it. It really is a beautifully stunning plane just like the real thing.

Hawker Hurricane 5CN RTF RC Plane

HAWKER HURRICANE 5CH RTF RC PLANE WITH RETRACTSThe Hurricane is another legendary plane which is not as well known as the Spitfire but is just as important in Britain’s history. It was also flown during the second world war but is often overshadowed by the Spitfire. Those who know their planes will know of the Hurricane which is why it is on my list.

This radio controlled version is just as stunning to look at as the real thing and performs extremely well for the money. It is a high quality model made by industry leaders Dynam RC and comes with everything you need to get started in your new hobby. It is ready to fly making it perfect for beginners and includes a long list of features.

The model itself has a wingspan of 1250 wingspan and working electric retracts that are controlled via the 5 channel switch on the transmitter which as said is all included. Other than those who would prefer the Spitfire (like me) who wouldn’t want this legendary plane? It is available from Nitrotek for a little over £200.

Mini P-51D Mustang RC Plane RTF 2.4Ghz

MINI P-51D MUSTANG RC PLANE RTF 2.4GHZFinally we have the Mustang. The Mustang is a legendry plane used my the Americans during World War 2 and the Korean War amongst other conflicts. It was the backbone of the Americans air power for many years and has become a firm favourite with plane enthusiasts. For that reason it is third on my list.

This plane is a relatively new model made by Dynam. It looks great and handles brilliantly. It is made from a lightweight EPO Foam and has a powerful 1900K brushless motor with a Li-po battery (see spec below).

If the Battle of Britain isn’t your thing then forget the Spitfire and Hurricane and get this delight instead. It is available from Nitrotek for a very reasonable price of £163.22 (at time of writing) and for a beginner you cannot do much better. Low risk for a very large reward.

BONUS!!!!!

Ok, so I am a little obsessed with history which is why I have chosen these three planes. They are legendary planes that have seen action and made a difference which does actually make a difference when I am looking for a model to buy. I understand not everyone is like that so I have decided to throw one more model in just for luck. It is a more modern plane although it is really more of a drone. It is the Predator MQ-9 3Ch 2.4GHz High Speed RTF Plane.

Predator MQ-9 3CH 2.4GHz High Speed RTF RC Plane (Drone)

PREDATOR MQ-9 3CH 2_4GHZ HIGH SPEED RTF RC PLANEA more modern aerial vehicle this plane/drone is another vehicle that has an easily recognisable look. Who hasn’t seen video of one of these either flying or taking off when listening to the latest news about the War on Terror?

This plane/drone is ready to fly when it arrives and is a fantastically affordable way to get into radio controlled planes coming in at under £35. It has a brushed engine and 3 channel controlled as well as a 3.7V 250MaH 20c Lithium Battery. One top feature is the ability to control the plane up to 200 meters away.

This is a fantastically cheap RC plane that offers you a very low risk way into the RC plane world. Who hasn’t got £35 to invest in a new fun hobby right? Why not check it out in more detail at Nitrotek.
